THE MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES:

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) formed in December of 2014 and was created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, and convene organizational leadership to debate and co-create a shared movement-wide strategy. M4BL is an ecosystem of more than 150 Black-led organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country that have come together with renewed energy, strategy, and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda. Our ecosystem is united by core values and politics that seek to build an anti-capitalist, abolitionist, and Black queer feminist future.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is hiring a Digital Manager. The Digital Manager is the powerhouse behind M4BL’s online strategies and guides our digital team. In addition, M4BL’s Digital Manager leads a comprehensive and strategic digital engagement program across all digital channels. This strategy encompasses social media, email, SMS, digital partnerships, digital infrastructure, digital team mentorship and management, digital team budget management, and ensuring that the digital team meets ecosystem-wide capacity-building goals.

The ideal candidate is someone both creative and tech-savvy, a self-starter who can help research and implement tools to reach and organize Black audiences online. They will work across campaigns and teams to support M4BL and M4BL's organizational members in growing our supporter base, politicizing new supporters effectively, and documenting our success and growth areas.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the ecosystem’s overall digital program
  • Mentor and manage the digital staff, and manage the team budget and associated administrative duties
  • Build, maintain, and democratize digital infrastructure and partnerships for the M4BL ecosystem
  • Prospect for and act upon potential digital campaign and movement-building opportunities
  • Track, report, evaluate, and grow M4BL’s online supporter base
  • Track, report, and assess the digital team’s capacity-building efforts for the M4BL ecosystem
  • Build relationships and strengthen partnerships with member organizations, partners, and community members to support ecosystem-wide priorities

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate has experience developing and implementing digital strategy campaigns with a class analysis, TGNCI analysis, a race and gender analysis, and experience building campaigns around M4BL’s legislative priorities. They also have:

  • An understanding of the work required to advance narratives through storytelling, digital campaigns, and online organizing
  • 5-7 years of digital strategy experience, preferably at a values-based organization, and coalition formation
  • Ability to adapt to change, prioritize multiple tasks effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Expert knowledge of all major social media platforms, email, and SMS, including publishing and analytics software (e.g., Sprout Social, HootSuite, Bit.ly)
  • Good writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, approaching issues with an objective mindset
  • Time-management skills and the ability to quickly pivot based on current events and organizational needs
  • A steadfast commitment to collective liberation and the ability to speak to and unite others behind M4BL’s platform
  • Experience running social media campaigns, and previous experience working with policy teams to support legislative campaigns on a state or federal level
  • Experience managing integrations between digital and field organizing
